HOW THE PRODUCT WORKS
The Emergency contraceptive pill contains a small amount of hormone that prevents pregnancy by providing crucial contraceptive back-up in cases of unprotected sex, rape, and contraceptive accidents such as forgotten pills or slipped condoms.
It prevents or delays ovulation by 5 to 7 days. By then, sperms from coitus in the woman’s reproductive tract die as they can survive there for only about 5 days.
However, it does not inhibit implantation of a fertilized egg or cause termination of a pregnancy. Effectiveness depends on when it is taken. Treatment should begin as soon as possible after unprotected sex because the pill is less effective with time. The sooner taken the better, ideally within 72 hours (about 3 days). Back-Up reduces risk of pregnancy after a
single unprotected sex act.
